Butcher and the Boar

1121 Hennepin Ave

     •     Green Chorizo $12(shared)

     •     Alaskan Halibut $29

     •     Smores $8

I will admit I was not too excited about going here. I had heard good things about it, but it was sausage and meat and I wasn't sure it would really be all that great. But we were on our way to the state theatre and this made sense as a before meal option.

So once again I was wrong. This place was great! We started with the Chorizo sausage to share and it made me want to cry it was so good. And I instantly regretted having ordered the Halibut for my entree. I really just wanted more sausage. However, my regrets were short lived. Because the Halibut was amazing as well. My dessert was excellent nothing to complain about, but if I were to go back, I may have a sausage for dessert instead. Yum!

So go to Butcher and the Boar now!

Ok weird, weird thing did happen that I have to share because it is simply too weird. So we were at a table next to two women. At some point, Steve wondered how many people at the restaurant were pre show people. Of course, I felt there were probably a few, but we would not know since there is no way we would see them at the show. Would you believe the women at the table next to us, were seated right next to us at the show as well. What are the odds? Crazy.

     •     Duck Breast Duck & foie gras sausage, waldorf style, celery, apple butter $33

     •     Chicory Coffee Semifreddo $8

The Butcher and the Boar is a fantastic restaurant for those who love sausage with variety. We had the green chorizo sausage with heirloom tomato, cumin creme fraiche, and cotija cheese. My mouth is watering as I type. The amazing thing is that the sausage tastes as good as it's described and maybe even better. The duck breast could have been a little better, it's not the best I've ever had, but I'm not complaining. The foie gras sausage on the side was exquisite. The accompanying Waldorf salad was very good as well. I also enjoyed the beignets - not available nearly enough in the Twin Cities - but after such great meat options, I probably should have just sipped one of the many great options from their extensive bourbon list. Butcher and the Boar was one of the highlights of 2013 for Renee and me.
