Would we go back:
1225 Hennepin Avenue
• 1/2 Caesar $4.95
• BLT $6.95
Eli's was a good Bar and Grill. It was hard to believe it was in the middle of a large city it seemed more like someplace you would find in a small town. I am sure there are regulars who everyone knows there name.
If I lived in the area I would probably spend some time there, but I am not sure it is worth a drive across town for.
• 1/2 Caesar with Walnuts and Salmon $6.95
• Pizza Italian Sausage, Apples, Gorgonzola $9.00
If we lived by Loring Park, I would visit Joe's Garage and Eli's Bar about once a month. Not that Eli's has great food, but it's innovative in places and traditional in others. Also it is affordable. You don't break your budget at this neighborhood bar.
The salmon and walnuts were plentiful on the caesar salad, making it an excellent value, and it tasted good. But I was worried about the pizza: I didn't think apples would fit with gorgonzola and italian sausage. Really, apples stood on their own, neither enhancing or detracting from the pizza. I was surprised that the italian sausage was not spicy, making the gorgonzola the dominant flavor. Overall the pizza was good, but I would recommend Punch Woodfire in St. Paul for a better gourmet pizza at the same price.
