• Grilled Salmon $18
• Chocolate Tasting $7
A restaurant that tries to be healthy and flaunts it with the nutrition info right on the menu. I really liked this. We only go out once or twice a week so it is not the end of the world if we splurge on a meal out, but I know many people eat much more out than us and it is nice to see the info right there. I have heard restaurant say this is too hard to do if the menu changes often, but I have little program at home that if I put ingredients in it spits out the information, so I am thinking it is more that restaurants really don't want us to think or know how bad the food really is for us. Anyhow, was the food good? Yes. I really enjoyed my salmon it was perfect cooked and the sides were simple fresh. My chocolate tasting was very good every component high quality.
• Grilled Tuna $21
• Butterscotch Pudding $4
I was ready to be disappointed by Mill Valley Kitchen. I was ready for a place that was all style and no substance. But I was not disappointed, and there was plenty of substance at Mill Valley Kitchen.
The web site says they are inspired by Northern California cuisine and locally sourced ingredients. I'm guessing my tuna was not locally sourced, but otherwise, the ingredients could be locally sourced. The menu includes nutritional information (calories, fat, carbohydrates, and protein). Weird. But the vibe in the restaurant makes you want to order a healthy entree, even though I was tempted to order a steak. I ordered a natural refreshment (carrot, apple, red bell pepper, ginger beer) because I was wondering how they could pull it off, it was somewhat healthy, and it was unique. And the desserts were small portions - again, healthier than a full portion even if you're enjoying a plate of chocolate or butterscotch pudding. I am sure this concept came from the West Coast, but I could see this concept doing well in a few locations in the Twin Cities in the right neighborhoods.
My tuna was delicious. It was perfectly done - between rare and medium rare, and it was a perfect cut of tuna. The accompanying cucumber yogurt sauce was light, tangy and refreshing. The greens were fresh and tasty, and the cauliflower 'couscous' was solid side dish.
Service was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was chic - I recommend dressing up. If you want a lot of food, this may not be the place for you. If you want really good food and healthy combinations, try out this place.
