Sea Salt

4825 Minnehaha Ave

Minneapolis

     •     Bay Scallops Tacos $6.95

Our trip to Sea Salt reminded me of why I love living in Minneapolis. First it was a beautiful Sunday morning, the kind of morning that you can only have in the summer in Minnesota. We went to one of the many great parks in the city and walked around until Sea Salt opened as we understood it could get busy. And understandably so, it was great. My tacos were absolutely perfect, the best I have had anywhere. On our drive home, we drove along the river to NE Mpls, in part to avoid the current disaster that 35W and in part to continue to enjoy the beautiful day and our beautiful city.

     •     Calamari Tacos $6.95

I loved Sea Salt. I stopped there last year on a bicycle ride and had a delicious shrimp po’ boy sandwich. This time around, I tried the calamari tacos. Both were absolutely, thoroughly superb. The two calamari tacos were a generous portion of fried calamari with slightly spicy, mostly fresh corn cilantro salsa on soft flour tortillas. The price was reasonable.

What I like most about Sea Salt is that it’s not fast. You are there, at Minnehaha Falls , you can sit, relax, and wait for some of the best simple seafood in the Twin Cities. Don’t rush it. Order a beverage to sip and enjoy the summer weather. Wait your turn and they will call your name when it’s ready. Even though this is a relatively quick service model, you really want to give it an hour or so for parking, walking around, lounging, people-watching, and so forth. When it takes about five or ten minutes longer to prepare your order than you think it should take, remember that you are only a few hundred feet from the falls that helped to inspire Longfellow’s poem The Song of Hiawatha.
