This is actually my and my son's second time to Sen Yai Sen Lek, we stopped here for lunch one beautiful fall day. Both experiences were equally good.
I really like Sen Yai Sen Lek. I know their prices are a bit high and/or their portions a bit small, but I think the quality is there and they are using sustainable/organic etc ingredients when they can. Their commitment to the community and food is something to be admired.
The green curry was really good, not quite as good as the green curry at Lemon Grass, but this is much closer so when I get a hankering I know where I will no doubt go. The spring rolls were good. We even ordered a children's dish for our son (Freya and Jasper's favorite stir fry $4.95), mainly because we were not sure how spicy ours would be. It was quite large for the price, but our son ate every bit of it. It came with a scoop of ice cream which we decided to forego since we had gotten a late start and our son was getting a bit restless, and I wasn't sure of the wisdom of having some ice cream before bed.
Overall this is a great neighborhood place, I am glad it is in my neighborhood. But I am not sure it is worth a drive across town for.

Sen Yai Sen Lek is decent Thai, but not among the best Thai in the Twin Cities. Renee’s green curry did not hold a candle to True Thai or Lemon Grass Thai. My noodle (soup) dish was fine. The wantons were nice, and the noodles were okay. Nothing spectacular, but it’s Thai in NE Minneapolis , so I wasn’t expecting much at all. I’d probably order something else the next time around to explore the menu further. The fried spring rolls tasted fine, but were slightly overpriced.
Service is professional and attentive.
I think I’ll look back on this time in history and remember what a severe recession we’re experiencing. I remember going to Europe in early 2002, and there was so much hospitality for Americans after 9/11. This has a similar feeling. When you go out, servers really appreciate your business and restaurateurs are just trying to hang on. I don’t know where the economy is headed, but in the meantime, give your local restaurant owner a hug and let them know that you appreciate them, too.
