YUM!

4000 Minnetonka Blvd

St. Louis Park

     •     Baja fish tacos $11.95

     •     Coconut Cake $4.95 (shared)

One of our son's new words is yummy, so he was excited to go to a place called Yum. I was a bit more skeptical, to name yourself Yum, you need to actually produce yummy food, which is easier said than done. After our meal, however, I am ok with the name.

I had the fish tacos which were good, they were not the best I have had, but they were a nice light meal for the after the holidays time of year. While Steve's fish and chips were not great after the holidays fare, I could not stop eating the fries. They were great! They reminded me of Weinery's fries from back in the day when I went to the Weinery on a regular basis, let's just say a quite a few years ago. Handcut and fried to perfection, truly yum. The coconut cake was also a yum for me, but I do love coconut cake and this was a great version of it.

Yum is a very family friendly place and when we were there on a Sunday evening it showed there were four toddlers there including our son, which is also one reason this is not a great romantic place. But it is not meant to be that, it is meant to be a place to have a quick meal or to take out and it does both those well.

     •     Fish and Chips $12.95

Yum! is a popular quick service, comfort food establishment in St. Louis Park. The fish and chips were delightful. The light breading on the Alaskan cod was crisp and flavorful. The fish itself was moist and tender. The fries tasted hand cut and had a nice herb spice mix on them. Overall, a good choice.

The concept is cafeteria-style: an entrée and sandwich counter and a coffee and pastry counter. They bring the food out to you after you order, you pick up your own silverware, and they bus the tables. In this setting, with no servers per se and a no-frills décor, the food needs to be slightly better to get noticed, and it is slightly better. This may be a decent place to meet a friend for a cup of coffee and dessert. Be warned that the no-frills atmosphere also attracts young parents who are looking for comfort food for the entire family, so it can get chaotic at peak meal times.
